SUMMARY

 

Operate a school bus by assessing traffic and road conditions, monitoring student behavior and other factors necessary to safely deliver student passengers to and from school by adhering to state laws and school district policies. Drivers will be evaluated on driving and student management skills annually.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must pass commercial driver licensing requirements.
  2. Must pass physical.
  3. Must submit to a background check as required by P.A. 187 Sec. 53.
  4. Must complete and pass new driver school.
  5. Must successfully complete probationary evaluation.
  6. Must be able to get along with other drivers.

REPORTS TO:  TRANSPORTATION DIRECTOR

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1.  Conduct pre-trip inspection of school bus prior to every trip

      A. Driver completes inspection prior to departure time or student arrival under                

        normal circumstances.

      B. Inspection forms are to be filled out completely and correctly.

2.   Use established routes, designated bus stops and only transport authorized passengers. Communicate any need for route        change to the Transportation Director. 

3.   Operate bus on approved time schedule.

4.   Report any pupil injuries/incidents to administration.

5.   Instruct passengers regarding responsible conduct while riding the bus.

6.   Performs bus housekeeping duties inside - drivers keep dash, seats and floor clean.

7.   Report bus defects and repairs needed in writing. Perform post-trip inspection to check for vandalism, lost articles or              sleeping students. 

8.   Establish favorable working relationships with school staff

9.   Drivers are professional and should present neat and professional appearance.

10. Attend all required trainings. 

11. Drivers shall follow duties as directed by immediate supervisor.

 

SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE ABILITIES

  1. Identify with geographic service area of school district, i.e., route being driven.
  2. Demonstrates knowledge of rules and regulations promulgated by authorities.
  3. Demonstrates knowledge of state laws and local ordinance.
  4. Administers disciplinary procedures in keeping with school policies.
  5. Drivers use good judgment starting bus.

 

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
