TITLE

Athletic Director & High School Graduation Coach

REPORTS TO

High School Principal

SALARY RANGE: $84,000 - $90,000

COMPREHENSIVE BENEFITS PACKAGE: Includes Health Insurance and Retirement

WORKING DAYS: ~222 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Athletic Director & High School Graduation Coach oversees the district’s interscholastic athletic programs while providing targeted academic monitoring and graduation support to eligible high school students. This position ensures compliant, well-managed athletic programs and coordinated student support services that promote student engagement, eligibility, and on-time graduation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must meet Michigan certification requirements or district qualifications for athletic administration
  • Experience in education, coaching, athletic administration, or student support services preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication, and supervision skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, staff, students, parents, and community partners
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities across athletics and student support

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Athletic Director Responsibilities

Athletic Program Leadership

  • Organize, direct, and supervise the district’s interscholastic athletic programs in accordance with MHSAA rules and district policy
  • Promote athletics as an extension of the district’s educational mission
  • Assist the High School Principal and Superintendent in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of coaches
  • Prepare and submit coach payroll documentation and required MHSAA notifications
  • Conduct or coordinate annual coach evaluations and maintain required documentation
  • Annual review and update of Athletic Handbook and Athletic Code of Conduct
  • Participation in Athletic Council Meetings

Athletic Operations & Game Administration

  • Supervise the administration of all middle school and high school athletic contests
  • Attend or ensure administrative coverage for all required home athletic events
  • Make weather-related contest decisions in collaboration with administrators and opposing athletic directors
  • Schedule contests, officials, transportation, and facilities for athletic events
  • Secure and supervise ticket takers, table workers, press box staff, and event personnel
  • Ensure athletic facilities are prepared, supervised, and secured before and after events
  • Oversee crowd management, student safety, and emergency response during events

Athletic Budget, Equipment & Facilities

  • Prepare and manage the athletic budget in collaboration with coaches and administration
  • Maintain accurate financial records for athletic accounts
  • Inventory, secure, distribute, and maintain athletic equipment
  • Coordinate with maintenance staff regarding athletic facilities and fields
  • Assist with hosting MHSAA tournaments and special athletic events

Eligibility, Compliance & Student Support

  • Maintain athletic eligibility lists in accordance with district policy
  • Monitor academic eligibility of student-athletes and communicate status to coaches
  • Investigate and enforce training rules violations
  • Meet with student-athletes and parents regarding eligibility, conduct, and participation
  • Serve as liaison to Athletic Boosters and community athletic partners

High School Graduation Coach (31A) Responsibilities

Student Monitoring & Graduation Support

  • Provide academic monitoring and graduation support to eligible 31A students
  • Identify at-risk students using academic, attendance, and behavioral data
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student contacts, interventions, and progress
  • Communicate regularly with students regarding graduation requirements and expectations
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to support student success

Collaboration & Communication

  • Facilitate communication between students, families, and school staff regarding academic progress
  • Participate in student support meetings as needed
  • Align graduation support efforts with building-level expectations and eligibility requirements

Professional Conduct & Collaboration

  • Maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, officials, and the community
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in all settings
  • Attend Board of Education meetings and league meetings as requested
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the High School Principal
